Stuart Hillary launches Discotec

DISCOTEC is the new gay dance club started in Johannesburg by Stuart Hillary. A superior clubbing experience is guaranteed for gay party personalities and their friends every Saturday night starting August 2010.
The music industry fluctuates and changes all the time. Stuart Hillary is one of the few artists to stay one step ahead of the rest by innovation and by setting trends musically, whether it is on the dance floor, in the studio, or in his CD mixes.
Stuart’s aim is not to play the “classics” but to create his own classics. With more than 2 decades of needle to the record hard work, he has residencies and performances at many clubs and events locally and regular stints nationally and internationally. His sound covers a wide range within the house music genre, and he has created a style that is uniquely his.
His talent has afforded him the opportunity to play along side the likes of Boy George, Alan Thomson, Carl Cox, Malcolm Duffy, Sasha, Digweed, Junior Sanchez, Frankie Knuckles and Tony de Vit, to name a few of his career highlights.
Not being the personality to wait for things to happen, Stuart co-founded dance playground, Club GASS and Therapy (Braamfontein, Jhb.1997-2003), that became an internationally recognised institution on the dance scene for over six years. Prior to this Stuart was resident at legendary clubs such as Krypton, The Embassy, and Mrs Hendersons , and at Bitch and as a co-partner in Legends – Pretoria for over 5 years.
Johannesburg has been without a really good gay dance venue for some time so once again Stuart has taken up the challenge and the result is the much anticipated Discotec, which opens on 28 August. This long overdue addition to the gay club scene will form part of The Warehouse club complex, with business partners Stuart Hillary and Gaby Levinson taking a legendary venue, and clubland, into a new era and beyond.
DISCOTEC, the anchor club, will inject fantastic poly-sexual funk into Jo’burg’s wild and wonderful gay clubbing scene. The look is “Las Vegas meets Disco Chic”, and the intention is to provide the highest quality music, service, and overall experience to match any of the major global club brands.
Stuart says “People talk about Therapy and the past highlights of gay clubbing history, and how there is nothing that compares to it now, but I say, lets cherish the past but move on, join me in building a brighter party future with DISCOTEC. We are going LARGE this time, people are going to LOVE it, and I have never been this excited about any of my previous projects!”
Joburg’s muscle marys, dykes, screaming queens, drag queens, Beulah boys, Lipstick Lesbians, Chicks with Dicks, twinks, fruit flies and straight buddies will all come together and feel as one to the sexy sounds of house music, every Saturday night at DISCOTEC, in an environment that is safe as well as superbly stimulating.

The focus of it all is on the huge dancefloor, which has marvellous sound and lighting, as well as a large stage, where DISCOTEC will regularly feature top music acts, as well as mouth-watering contests and speciality shows that will burst onto the DISCOTEC stage every month.
“Experience the power of the biggest sound system and most cruise-friendly dancefloor ever experienced in South African gay clubbing history, with only top quality DJ line-ups that take you on a fantastical journey, from well known party anthems and through to the latest cutting edge club sounds,” explains Stuart .

The dancefloor has 3 private booth areas, each appointed with an exclusive hot waitron, catering for the discerning VIP market. The large outside courtyard is romantically lit and complete with cocktail bar, food, coffee, and serves as a good place to socialise as well as an escape from the music and mayhem inside.
Large, modern and updated bathrooms will ensure that DISCOTEC patrons do not have any of the usual frustrating experiences clubbers often have to endure. Respecting its core audience, DISCOTEC has placed a discreet dark room on “the way to the” men’s room.
The Warehouse, which houses Discotec, is a modular styled super club that on a standard night will cater for up to 1500 people, but can cater for up to 5000 people when the entire complex is used - perfect for huge events like Pride and New Year. Stripped down and spruced up, The Warehouse complex boasts a late licence and is ready to become the coolest club venue in the north of Jozi, with an entertainment policy that caters for a variety of tastes
