For many, this is undoubtedly a highlight of the Pride Festival - the traditional opening of the festival and a celebratory party not to be missed. The colour is red: a reminder to treasure our health and to love those in our community living with HIV. This year's Red Party is being conducted simultaneously in eight great venues across the city; your R20 donation to Pride will give you access to several participating venues where you can experience great décor, the best DJs, plus giveaways and complimentary shooters! FANTASTIC! Watch the website for details.

We're rolling out the carpet for a glamorous night which will be fun, fab and flirty! You'll join us for a sundowner before you voyage with us on the Sea Princess, which will cruise from the V&A Waterfront to Camps Bay and back. Your boarding pass will put you in line for some amazing prizes. Onboard entertainment will be glam with our guest DJ playing old school house, select mouthwatering finger food from various participating restaurants and we'll announce the Pride community awards. The winners of our premier Pride Oscars will also be announced: the "Gaytown Awards". The evening will include a silent auction. This will undoubtedly be a fun and memorable evening! Tickets will be limited so book early for this one, and watch the website for our Gaytown Award nominations and cast your vote.

An event for those who love the written and spoken word. Inaugurated in 2006, this has become a regular and very successful festival feature. A showcase for gay literati, authors and poets, it attracts not only bibliophiles but also those who appreciate poetry, good books and mingling with like-minded people. 14. The Pride Parade, Saturday 6 March:

As always, the annual Pride Parade will be the highlight of this year's festival as we celebrate our rich diversity and make our presence strongly felt. Prepare your costume, fluff your feathers and join the procession of great floats and proud bodies as the community of the Mother City makes a collective celebratory statement of solidarity and acceptance. We'll be aware of those who are oppressed, threatened or harmed because of their sexual identity. Stand a chance of being one of the frontline walkers who will form the rainbow flag ahead of the Pride float; all details will appear on the website.

15. Post-parade Fair, Saturday 6 March:

You'll definitely want to be at the Fair for an inspiring line-up of entertainment, stalls, food, plenty of space to chill, top DJs, a safe space for the kids, and an opportunity to meet Mr and Miss Cape Town Pride, the recipient of the Cape Town Pride Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Mother City's very own winner of the recent Mr Gay South Africa contest, the team that put the festival together for you to enjoy and our sponsors and partners that make this festival possible. Learn more about the Pride Shelter Trust and how you can support this great accomplishment that benefits our city's gay community.

16. Pride Sports Day, Sunday 7 March:

The 2010 Pride Festival wouldn't be complete without soccer - who said soccer was only for straights? Join us for a fun outdoor event and participate in our 5-a-side mini soccer tournament, guaranteed to bring out our competitive spirit. Watch the website for the venue of the beautiful game and kick-off details.
